1. Find Binkie, Blankie, Gloworm, favorite pillow, and anything else necessary for sleep.

2. Give the child a drink of milk.

3. Put the child in bed, give copious amounts of hugs and kisses.  Turn on the baby monitor.

4. Attempt to pee, eat, have an adult conversation, answer a phone call, have a hot cup of coffee, or do chores.

5. Listen to the toddler not sleep on the monitor.

6. After a few minutes, enter the child’s bedroom and tell them it is nap time.

7. Get the child another drink, give kisses, find a missing stuffed animal, etc.

8. Go back to attempting to pee, eat, have an adult conversation, answer a phone call, have a hot cup of coffee, or do chores.

9. After ten more minutes of listening to the child not sleeping on the baby monitor,  reenter the child’s bedroom and restate the fact that it is nap time and they need to close their eyes and go to sleep.

10. After a few more minutes send in parent number two.

11. Again attempt to pee, eat, have an adult conversation, answer a phone call, have a hot cup of coffee, or do chores.

12. Again reenter child’s bedroom.  Dry tears, give hugs and kisses, reinforce the fact that it is nap time and necessary to sleep.  Tell the child how tired you are and desperately you wish you could take a nap but cannot.  Leave the room.

13.  After five more minutes of crying give up.

13. Take child out bed.
